How to refresh your outdoor entertaining area
Whether you’ve got a pool house, a big deck with a dining area or a small walled courtyard, it’s time to get your outdoor area ready for the warmer weather. We’re here to get you started with a lick of paint, a pop of colour, and tips on how to give your furniture a refresh. Update your area with paint
A new coat of paint can easily transform your outdoor entertaining area. Classy vivid whites create a crisp, modern vibe, while pretty pastels add a sense of luxury. If you’re feeling brave, try a bold contrasting colour scheme to create a fun focal point.
No matter what exterior paint colours you choose, make sure it complements not just your garden but the outdoor paint colour of your home for a cohesive look.
Add some texture
Breathe life into your outdoor area with a wall texture so good you’ll want to reach out and touch it. With a light, rock-like finish, Dulux Texture is fun to apply and easy to personalise. In three different types of coverage and a wide range of colours, it’s perfect for walls big and small.
Freshen up furniture and plants
If you’re not feeling brave enough to add a splash of colour to your outdoor walls, try starting with painting your furniture and plant pots.
If your furniture’s been out in the elements and is looking weathered, a bright new paint job can make them look as good as new. Go bold with a contrasting colour, or stick with a monochrome palette that compliments your colour scheme.
You can even make a project of painting your plant pots in block colours, with patterns or with a glossy or marble finish. Pick a paint that will be durable in all weathers such as Dulux Aquanamel® or Weathershield®, so your pieces will last for years to come (or until you decide to change them up again).
Time to paint
1. Paint selection
Choose a Dulux Texture coverage and colour for your feature wall.
2. Preparation
Prep your wall with a Texture Primer™, lay down a drop sheet and tape any edges. Always read the product label to confirm steps.
3. Cut in
Once primer is dry, stir Dulux texture with a flat paddle in a scooping motion. Cut into areas less accessible with a paint brush and apply pressure with rougher surfaces.
4. Scoop up
Using a wool mat, scoop the texture from the bucket.
5. Apply to wall
Apply to the wall in random sweeping patterns and make sure to work into all the gaps.
6. Reload and repeat
Allow the first coat to dry for up to 4 hours, and repeat the process from step 4.
