A kid’s bedroom can be one of the most fun places to paint in your home. They’re bright and colourful spaces made to inspire creative young minds. Here are a few tips to help you choose and paint the right colours for your kid’s room.
Finding the right colour can depend on the size of your kid’s room and the overall theme. Start by choosing some of your favourite colours with your kids.
To start, find your inspiration and select a colour from the Dulux colour range – and don’t be afraid to go bold. Explore our extensive home exterior inspiration gallery or consider purchasing a sample pot to help you choose the perfect colour for your project.
To avoid any accidental spills, prepare the area by moving all furniture and items out of the bedroom. If needed, sand back any imperfections in the plaster or paint. Then, clean the walls and ceiling using Selleys Original Sugar Soap and lay down your drop sheet to protect from drips.
Mask your trim and load your brush by dipping it into the paint. Tap the side of the paint tin to remove the excess and start brushing a few centimetres from the corner or edge. Move the brush in a consistent motion to establish the line of the edge of the paint.
Open the paint can and stir your paint thoroughly. Load your roller and apply the first coat by rolling it in a ‘W’ motion on the wall, up and down. Cross over the same section as required and continue to paint along the wall until it is evenly covered.
For a smooth, even finish, lay-off your wall with an unloaded roller and roll it from top to bottom of the wall in a straight line. Then slightly go over the same spot and repeat across the wall to remove any streaks. Allow to dry before applying additional coats of paint.
Once your first coat is dry, reload your roller and repeat steps three and four until all bedroom walls have been painted with an even, consistent coverage. Depending on the previous paint colour, you may need to apply a third coat to achieve the best results.
