How to paint using Dulux Design Rust Effect

Products you will need

• Dulux Rust Effect base paint and Dulux Rust Effect Solution.

• Quality masking tape.

• A paint stirrer and drop sheet.

• A wide paint brush.

• Wide-top shallow container for the Rust Effect Solution.

Preparation

• Carefully read and follow the instructions on the product label.

• Surface must be clean, dry and free from dust, oils and grease.

• Mask off the area with painter’s tape – where you don’t want any paint.

• Stir the paint well with a paint stirrer using an up and down scooping action. Make sure you scrape the bottom of the can to ensure particles are evenly distributed.

• Practice your application technique on a large, spare piece of board.

Application

1. Brush around the edges of the wall.

2. Apply the first two coats of Dulux Rust Effect with a wide brush using random brush strokes. Allow 12 hours between coats.

3. After 12 hours, apply 2 coats of Dulux Rust Effect Solution over the dry Rust Effect with a wide brush in random brush strokes. Apply a light mist of water to aid the rusting process. Allow 8 hours between coats.

4. Rust residue may be rubbed off when touched.

Handy Tips

• Do not roll or spray.

• On exterior surfaces the rust effect will continue to develop over time.

• To avoid rub-off and run-off seal with one coat of Berger® Jet Dry® Stone & Paving Sealer in Natural finish mixed with water at a 1:1 ratio. Note that a clear coat will change the appearance of the rust effect.

• Rust residue may be rubbed off when touched.
