Dulux® Aquanamel® on pre-primed Hume Doors UV Primer coating used on interior H1 P/C MDF faced doors

PREPCOAT: Dulux PRECISION® Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer is a specially formulated primer designed to grip and bond superbly to a variety of smooth and glossy surfaces, such as glass or glazed ceramic tiles, which typically resist coatings.

It also provides a sound base for topcoats on hard, dense, non-porous or glossy coated surfaces. With excellent adhesion properties, it is suitable as a primer, sealer and undercoat for most interior or exterior applications.

Dulux PRECISION Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer will ensure that a secure bond is provided in critical situations, when the performance of a traditional oil or water based primer may be questionable.

TOPCOAT: Dulux Aquanamel is a water-based interior/exterior acrylic enamel that dries to a smooth and tough finish.

Dulux Aquanamel can be used in many of the areas that traditional solvent based enamels are used, with all the time-saving benefits of an acrylic paint.

Dulux Aquanamel is non-yellowing and resists chipping hence this product is highly recommended for doors, architraves, skirting boards, windows, timber trim and walls. It is ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

Substrate notes

The pre-primed MDF door consists of natural products that are greatly affected by changes in moisture and can be easily damaged during storage, transport or installation. A change in moisture can cause the door to warp, crack or bow. Unprotected doors can physically deteriorate if exposed to extremes of atmospheric change over a period of time.

The MDF door skin consists of a factory applied, UV energy cured epoxy acrylate finish, which is a high performance coating designed to provide maximum protection to the door face during storage, transport and installation.

It provides a hard, durable surface, that requires premium quality adhesion primers for best results when top coating. Research has shown that doors with the correct paint finish outlast and perform better than those not finished adequately

Substrate preparation

Wipe the UV Primer-coated surface and adjacent surfaces (door edge) to remove all traces of oils and surface contamination. Abrade the coated surface with a P220 to P400 paper and dust down. Ensure that the sandpaper used is Stearate Free. Finally, wipe all surfaces down with a clean lint-free cloth to remove all traces of dust residue.

Coating system summary

Primer: Dulux PRECISION Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer (PDS: AU_DD02066)

2nd Coat: Dulux Aquanamel Gloss (PDS: Gloss - AUDD1282 / Semi-Gloss – AUDD1281)

3rd Coat: Dulux Aquanamel Gloss (PDS: Gloss - AUDD1282 / Semi-Gloss – AUDD1281)

# Refer to the coating system below for full details.

Coating system

Once the surface has been cleaned and prepared correctly...

Primer: Apply Dulux Precision Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer by Brush, Roller or Spray in accordance with manufacturer’s directions provided on the Product Data Sheet (PDS: AU_DD02066), to a wet film thickness of between 100 and 137 microns (DFT: 42-58 microns) or a theoretical spreading rate* of between 7.3 and 10 SqM per litre. Applying the recommended film thickness is critical to achieving successful adhesion. Over spreading the primer can result in reduced adhesion.Allow to dry for 1-2 Hours min (recoat time**) prior to over coating.

2nd Coat: Apply Dulux Aquanamel Gloss or Semi-Gloss by Brush, Roller or HVLP Spray in accordance with manufacturer’s directions provided on the Product Data Sheet (PDS), to a wet film thickness of 50-60 microns (DFT: 18-25 microns) or a theoretical coverage rate* of between 14 and 16 SqM per litre. Allow to dry for 2 hours min (recoat time**) prior to over coating.

3rd Coat: Apply Dulux Aquanamel Gloss or Semi-Gloss by Brush, Roller or HVLP Spray in accordance with manufacturer’s directions provided on the Product Data Sheet (PDS), to a wet film thickness of 50-60 microns (DFT: 18-25 microns) or a theoretical coverage rate* of between 14 and 16 SqM per litre. Allow to dry for 2 hours min (recoat time**) prior to over coating.

Coating system notes

Coating application details for each product are provided on the respective Product Data Sheet which is available online from Dulux via either www.duspec.com.au or www.duspec.co.nz

* Practical Spreading Rate will vary from the quoted Theoretical Spreading Rate due to factors such as method and conditions of application and surface roughness.

** Recoat Times are quoted at 25°C and 50% Relative Humidity. These times can vary under different conditions.
